As you can imagine July 4th is the busiest holiday on the OBX. Families and friends will flood to the OBX to celebrate America’s independence and freedom. As you are getting your packing list together for your trip, Scott Team Realty did some research on the best events going on, so you have one less thing to worry about. The holiday really kicks off on July 1st as the weekend starts. American flags will be posted on beach houses, and off of trucks and jeeps. Here are some events to keep an eye on:
Monday, July 4th
To celebrate there is an abundance of events on Independence Day for any and every member of the family.
If you like 5k runs on Thanksgiving then you might like to do a 5k on the 4th of July. In Kill Devil Hills at 7:30 am there is the 8th Annual Outer Banks Freedom 5k. There is even an option for the little ones to get it on the race fun. The race will start at 102 Town Hall Drive in Kill Devil Hill NC.
You can start your morning off early at the Town of Duck Annual 4th of July Parade starting at 9 am. This is the first year this annual parade is back. This is a one-mile parade route that begins at Scarborough Lane and goes to the ocean and turns left onto Ocean Way, and then going onto Christopher Drive to end at Pamela Court. After the one-mile parade route, there will be a community celebration with live music, drinks, and a trophy ceremony.
In the afternoon/evening there are two places where you can enjoy live music. At Kill Devil Hills you can enjoy live music. A local band called The Wilder Brothers will put on a live show at Outer Banks Brewing Station starting at 5:30-8:30 pm. Outer Banks Brewing Station is located at 600 South Croatan Hwy Kill Devil Hills, NC.
You can also enjoy the Deloreans and the 82nd Airborne Division Band and Chorus at the Roanoke Island Festival Park. That concert starts at 4:30 and lasts until the fireworks start.
Fireworks
One big thing that is probably on your mind is where you can watch fireworks. Here are some options all across the OBX:
- Historic Corolla Park 5-9 pm. Enjoy food and live music. Fireworks at Dusk.
- Kill Devil Hill Fireworks 8 pm
- Nags Head Fireworks Spectacular 9:25 pm
- On the Manteo Waterfront at 9:30 pm launched over the Roanoke Sound and Shallowbag Bay
Going to the top of one of our large sand dunes you might be able to see one or more of these shows at the same time. In the past, folks have gone to the top of Jockey’s Ridge and the Wright Memorial for the best views. Finding high beach access is also a good spot.
There’s nothing like an Outer Banks Independence Day celebration. We hope to see you on the beach this weekend when we celebrate the birth of our great nation!
