I will remember recent months as one of the better fall seasons for summer-like weather. Ocean temperatures remained in the 70’s into late October. Being surrounded by that warm water extended our warm days and nights for a few extra weeks. Surfers enjoyed that warm water with one of the longest stretches of good waves in recent memory. Hurricane Leslie stayed hundreds of miles off the coast generating good surfing waves for close to three weeks.
Speaking of Hurricanes…the northern beaches had a miss and a surprise this fall. Florence gave us some rain and a little wind but nothing more than your average nor’easter. All that Florence rain inland did keep the sound high. It takes a while for all that water to make it to the ocean. Most locals were surprised by Michael when it went to the west of us. With the sounds still high many properties on the back side of the northern beaches saw water.

As of this writing the surf fishing is great and local folks are getting ready to celebrate Thanksgiving with friends and family. It’s been a great year for the Outer Banks. We have a lot to be thankful for!
