Like most Americans, North Carolinians stick together in times of need. Towns to our south sure could use some hurricane relief right now. Swansboro, NC was significantly impacted by our most recent hurricane. As the crow flies, this small coastal town is only about 125 miles to the south west of the northern OBX beaches. They received over 30 inches of rain and a fairly large tidal surge from Florence. Frequently, towns in this area come to our aid when storms hit us. The town of Southern Shores is collecting hurricane relief items for folks affected in this town.
What you can do to help
If you are here, please consider dropping items off at the Town of Southern Shores. Here are a few of the most needed items:

- Clorox Wipes
- Canned goods
- Pasta and spaghetti sauce
- Mac and cheese
- Cat Food
- Diapers (especially size 4 and 5)
- Baby formula
The town will be taking these items on Thursdays to Swansboro.
Kitty Hawk is also taking supplies to a small North Carolina coastal town that was impacted. Belhaven is on the inner banks of NC next to the Pungo River. This area is famous for the final completed section of the intercoastal waterway. That waterway provides boats a safe inland passage between Maine and Florida. Belhaven had over seven feet of flooding. Some of the footage from Belhaven went viral during the storm (google Belhaven NC Hurricane Florence).
Belhaven could also use similar supplies. You can also drop those off at the Kitty Hawk town hall. They will be delivering them on Monday Oct 1. If you are not in the area but would still like to help then here are links to a few relief organizations where you can donate. These are making a difference in the areas hit by Hurricane Florence right now.
