Southern Shores Living

Is Southern Shores, NC a good place to live? Southern Shores has the best of both worlds...great year round living and fabulous vacation living. There’s beach zone living with its smattering of classic flattop cottages and numerous classic vacation homes.  A few folks reside here year round but it is mostly vacation homes. The beach zone can be roughly described as that area that is just a short walk to the ocean.  And then there is many square miles of great primary residential living.  Very … Continue reading...

Move to the Outer Banks?

move to the outer banks

As the great debate rages, “Should we move to the Outer Banks?” the answer is an unequivocal “maybe.” Of course there are two camps of thought.  Some say absolutely not; not wishing to share what they have found.  Others who welcome anyone who wants to live here.  The truth is, living on the Outer Banks is somewhere in between. It’s a difficult thing to explain the pros and cons of living somewhere. It is, after all, a very broad topic and by its very nature somewhat subjective. However, by … Continue reading...

What’s new on the Outer Banks? Spring 2023

Years ago, I was talking with a client about how things were changing on the Outer Banks.  He was reminising about how he loved the way things used to be.  He then said "That's why the Lord only gives us four score."  Change is going to happen here weather we like it or not.  The year 2023 is looking like the year of new businesses and old friends expanding. By our count there are five major projects moving forward at this time. Most, if not all of  them should be opening in the next three to … Continue reading...

The Outer Banks blessed with interconnected multi-use paths from the north end of Duck at the Currituck County line to South Nags Head. This area is perfect for a family bike outing, a pleasant ride and relaxing way to tour the area or even a long ride for a more advanced rider. One of the most pleasant sections among the Dare County multi-use paths is the ride through Kitty Hawk.  This post will focus on the multi-use paths in Kitty Hawk and the Kitty Hawk trails. Sandy Run Park Kitty Hawk

The Outer Banks prides itself on being a family oriented place to live, work and visit. There’s a lot that goes into that. For families living here, Dare County schools rate very well among the state’s systems. There’s also the beach. It’s the reason people have been visiting this sandbar by the sea for almost 200 years. But there is much more to the Outer Banks than the beaches. There are many public recreational spots for all kinds of family activities. Sandy Run Park in Kitty Hawk … Continue reading...

Outer Banks Thanksgiving 2022

There’s a lot happening on the Outer Banks this Thanksgiving. Outer Banks visitors tend to think of the summer as the time of year when everything is happening on the Outer Banks. And admittedly summer is when all of our businesses and restaurants are open and live music is everywhere. But what makes the Outer Banks such a great place to live, work and visit are some of the special events that can only happen when there’s a little more time to plan and organize then seems to be available in the … Continue reading...

Outer Banks Soccer

The Outer Banks has a history of great youth soccer programs. Since 2016 both Manteo and First Flight High School have won state championships.   During recent years, when these teams don’t make it to the state final, they often are beaten in the playoffs by a high school team that wins the state championship. This is particularly impressive given the fact that the Outer Banks is competing against schools with kids from national hotbeds for soccer talent like Raleigh and Charlotte. Winning high … Continue reading...
